Gaffney Legends & Legacies Tour

Gaffney, South Carolina was settled by a small group of determined people–determined to succeed and otherwise make their mark on history. Without these intrepid folk, Gaffney would not be the town it is today. On this tour, we celebrate our accomplishments, marvel at achievements and culture, dish the dirt on political intrigue from days gone by and sprinkle in some downright hilarious tidbits about people who made us what we are today.

This tour is 2.7 miles long and we’ll begin just outside of the Residential Historic District and continue through Oakland Cemetery and go through the Limestone Springs Historic District and end where we started. Meet up spot is the 300 block of S. Johnson Street, with street parking available. Look for the guide with the red umbrella and you know you’ll be in the right place!

Tickets are $30 per person. This tour is not recommended for children aged 6 to 15, because the tour is not a very tactile tour, and climbing on monuments is prohibited. Smaller children are invited to join parents if the children are in strollers, and you need to bring items that will keep them content/comfortable during the tour for the comfort of other guests. Dogs are welcome; but city codes require they be leashed and you need to bring the equipment to pick up after them. Children in strollers are at no cost. Happy and friendly dogs are always free.

Cemetery Language Decoded

In a time when there was no widespread newspapers, newscasts or social media, loved ones looked to certain images or symbols, symmetry and even direction in order for future generations to understand the person who died and was buried. Historical cemeteries have their own language and stories to tell. Now you can learn them also by a tour of one of our historic cemeteries. Hear the stories. You will not be disappointed by this fascinating tour. Tours last about 1.5 hours.
